FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: GHOST 3D's SURF-IT TOOLS AND TECHNOLOGY USED IN FIRST OF XBOX GAMES November 1, 2001 -- GHOST 3D, LLC announces GHOST 3D's Surf-iT™ software and technology was instrumental in creation of titles in first wave of Xbox™ games. The recently released "Cel Damage" title from EA GAMES™ is one of the first Xbox games released that uses GHOST 3D's Surf-iT tools and patch surfacing technology to generate the models for the 3D game. Surf-iT(tm) is a powerful Spline based 3D modeling plug-in for the top-selling 3ds max (tm) and 3D Studio VIZ(r) software solutions by Discreet, a division of Autodesk, Inc. Under the EA GAMES™ brand, Electronic Arts™ (Nasdaq:ERTS) recently announced the highly anticipated release of Cel Damage™ for the Xbox™ video game system from Microsoft®. Cel Damage's content is displayed with a cartoon look and feel, but developed in 3D using GHOST 3D's Surf-iT 3D modeling tools extensively for and throughout the entire product development. Cel Damage for the Xbox and Gamecube is developed by Pseudo Interactive, a Toronto-based development company. The artists at Pseudo Interactive avidly attest to Surf-iT's usefulness in the Cel Damage project, and have generously provided sample shots of the Cel Damage models and artwork for display in the showcase at http://showcase.ghost3d.com. The Surf-iT modeling kit provides S-Object tools to allow instant creation of complex parametric Spline networks that can be dynamically modified, edited, and immediately surfaced at any time using a variety of different attributes and techniques. The S-Object, Spline editing, and surfacing output is fully compatible with 3ds max's native object classes, so that game developers leveraging 3ds max's Open Source initiative can integrate Surf-iT created content in their game engines without having to invest additional research or make other sacrifices. Game developers, film and entertainment production teams can easily incorporate Surf-iT to enhance their production workflow, because Surf-iT builds on the existing benefits of the familiar 3ds max and VIZ interface, and then further expands on this with convenient and time-saving operations and tools. Additionally, there are five other modular components making Surf-iT incredibly flexible and fully compatible with 3ds max standards. Customers can use Surf-iT's robust Spline Editor to locally (or globally) refine and shape the areas of the object where the detail is needed. Protrusions and cavities can be instantly extruded at the Spline level as if operating on a solid object. The modular and organized workflow means maximum flexibility and avoids the need to commit to permanent surface operations. Surfacing is automatic, multi-level, and can be viewed simultaneously during Spline operations. Game developers and game production studios worldwide are using Surf-iT because of its intelligent optimized surfacing in addition to its speed and its flexible output. Due to Surf-iT's flexible integration with 3ds max, combined with some of GHOST 3D's additional software tools, gamers can create anything 3D using splines, S-Object primitives, advanced Spline Editor manipulation tools and then output characters, props, and scene objects to patch or mesh for other kinds of editing or mapping.. Using other GHOST 3D utilities any object can then be converted back to Surf-iT's Splines to take advantage of the spline editing flexibility and control. In short, the content creators in a game house can extensively leverage Surf-iT and it's 3ds max MaxScript integration, the macro suite, flexible S-Object creation and the editing workflow as a rapid construction springboard in conjunction with any other kind of manipulation and editing tools that 3ds max has to offer. The Cel Damage game from Pseudo Interactive represents the culmination of this design, workflow and many of these Surf-iT techniques that have been incorporated by 3D game production houses using Surf-iT.
